Hi Guy’s,
Thanks for joining me on my continued journey with “Learn with Sally“ I have to say that Sally’s coaching course has already surpassed by expectations!
Even though this is only week 3 and I have just completed Module 2 “Traffic Foundations” – It’s showed me just how many mistakes I had been making! Over the next few day’s I am going to be a busy bee!
Last Thursday’s webinar was all about “Traffic Foundations” setting up accounts on Social Media sites and making sure they all link in to each other and our blog …

Now I have to admit I have had a presence on these accounts for some time now, with the exception of Google+ and LinkedIn and it was quickly pointed out to me that I have not been making the best use of these sites … this was going to change! (Or I may get my Butt Kicked!)
Over the next few days I set about putting into practice what Sally had shared with us, and already I can see improvements to my sites. I would like to share with you some points Sally highlighted and shared with us;
Brand
When setting up your accounts consider your “Brand” try to use the same name or business name. You don’t want your accounts in different names it could be confusing for people. When people land on your site you want them to recognise it as yours!
When building your brand you could also consider having your own backgrounds made for your Twitter and YouTube accounts. Below are two suggestions, I have found them both to be excellent both Steve at “GFX-1″ and Tim at “ThreeToedCrow” are great guy’s and would love to have a chat about your requirements. I have personally used them both …..
Organization
This is going to be important especially with all the accounts you will be setting up. With accounts come “Passwords” and “Logins” so to assist you in having to remember these details you can get yourself some password management software for example;

Both of these software management programs offers free download, and it’s down to your personal preference which one you choose.
Social Media Sites
Why these type of accounts; it’s simple because they will really spread the word about your blog /content. They will feed each other and spread your content on Auto Pilot. Talk about going viral!
Lets take a look at some facts, rankings and benefits that Sally shared with us in the last webinar …
Google +
This new social media network is already proving to be top class and gained over 10 million users in 16 days! As this is a google site it will automatically rank as No1. (So we can not take too much notice of the ranking) However considering this is still an invite only site we can get an idea of its popularity.
- Links to your blog, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn – On the About me page
- About me page can have clickable links as well!
- Blog share / widget
Google+ Statistics currently tracks and generates detailed statistics for 48,000 users and pulls in hundreds of the most popular posts, every second of the day, from Google+. You can add yourself and start tracking your personal Google+ statistics too. You will be able to see how many people added you to their circles, how you grow over time and where you rank in the list of popular Google+ users. (Just click the link below)
(More to come on this site in future post updates)
Its ranked 2nd in the world and now has in excess of 700 million users its still growing in use and popularity, 50% of users log on to Facebook in any given day! So imagine what it could do for you …
- Info Tab Link to your blog
- Feed blog comments
- YouTube updates
- FB “like” button on your blog
- Great platform for Image Building
- Offers great visibility of your content
- Facebook Fan Page (Bolt On)
YouTube
YouTube is ranked 3rd in the world has over a Billion users, with such a huge number of users it offers a platform with huge potential to share your content.
- Channel links to your blog
- Feed Twitter
- Feed Facebook
(I will be sharing more in the coming weeks on this section when we start doing the video training modules!)
Twitter is ranked 9th and according to their about page has around 175 million users.
- Twitter promotes multimedia embedded content
- Twitter works like a mini press release
- Link to blog on profile
- Feed blog comments
- Tweet Me Me
- Twitterlink
- Tweet old Post
- Sidebar widget
LinkedIn is ranked 13th, this site is centred more around professional networking and has in excess of 100 million users.
- Link to blog and RSS
- Personal site
- Twitter on profile
- Twitter feed application
- Blog post application
- Twitter integration
(More to come on this site in future post updates)
Remember by setting up these sites we are creating our own “Ultimate Traffic Network” our own Traffic Circle … All they need now is CONTENT!
Whats that saying “Feed Me Seymore, Feed Me!
(By the way .. “Little Shop of Horrors” is one of my favourite films!)
So are you going to use Social Media to drive traffic to your sites / blog or maybe you already are in which case let me know how its working for you.
I would love to connect with you and link up and share content, all you have to do is hit the “Follow Me” Button on the right!
In this weeks webinar Sally announced a competition to see who can generate the most traffic to their blogs so could I ask a huge favour … help me get the word out about this post .. please spread the word by using the social media tools below.
So I hope you can join me on my continued journey – “Learn with Sally“
Stay tuned for next weeks post when I shall be sharing some tips on how to grow these accounts …

Hi Ian
Isn’t it funny that we all had profiles on some of these sites and wasn’t using them to our advantage.
That will change from now on that’s for sure.
And I couldn’t believe it when Sally said that Linkedin had an alexa rank of 13…
13 and most people dismiss Linkedin completely (lol)
I’m looking forward to this weeks training when hopefully Sally can give us some tips on how not to waste to much time on these sites.
Well looking at my stats this week my number one traffic source was from Facebook so that’s were my traffic is coming from right now.
Take care
And will catch up with you soon.
Dawn
p.s Tweeted, Google plussed and will Facebook tommorrow cause I’m of to night nights now (lol)

Hi Dawn
Thanks for popping over and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated
Yes! It is funny I have had my Facebook account now for a number of years, but like you said I have not used it to my advantage … now that is changing what with Sally’s teachings.
I can already see a difference in my Twitter and Facebook accounts, after cleaning them up!
I’m also looking forward to this week’s training, it should be a great follow on from last week, and I can’t wait to see what Sally has in store for us!
Hopefully my YouTube account will now change for the better as well with the Video Module still to come in Sally’s training. Mind you Barry’s helping in that direction as well; I think his new challenge is great. Are you doing it Dawn?
I haven’t checked my traffic stats for the past week, I’ll do that later.
Thanks Dawn for the RT and google+, and a big thank you for not only mentioning me, but the rest of Sally’s students on your latest blog post … you’re a star!
Take care; catch up on tomorrow’s webinar
Ian

Hi Ian,
I do love your style of writing mate. The graphics you add, like the mapping, make it so easy for people to understand the effects of linking these sites up to our comment etc.
Like dawn said I had a LinkedIn account but only because someone sent me an invite. I had never set it up correctly, in fact the only one that I had set correctly was Twitter, but that’s my favourite. Mind you I say that Ian but haven’t given the others a go at all.
With all of these sites having such a good ranking people would be silly not to tap into the free resource.
I’d kick myself, if I could, for not doing this much earlier. I knew I would learn loads from Sally but being honest Ian I’m amazed at how much I have learnt in just 2 lessons.
I’m off to sort my password protection out now
Thanks for linking to my challenge Ian, I can’t wait to see the videos especially those first time creators.
Best of luck mate, not that you need it
As always my friend
Respect and Regards,
Barry

Hi Barry
Thanks for dropping in mate, and sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it
I am presently stuck into Camtasia; learning my way around it. Hoping to try it out this evening!
You know I think that’s the case with most of us Barry; we have had these accounts for some time but not really made the best use of them. Now with Sally’s coaching they are being bought back to life with a renewed energy.
Having learnt what we have with Sally so far in the course I too am annoyed with myself for not taking advantage of these sites, but I think that is probably down to knowing how to best move forward with them!
As I have already mentioned Sally’ course has already surpassed my expectations, and I am truly enjoying it. As you say 3 weeks in and 2 modules covered and look at what we have learnt … amazing; I am really looking forward to the next few weeks.
That’s one of the first things I did after the last weeks webinar… sort out my password software – I’m terrible for remembering logins and passwords for all my accounts!
I think your Video challenge is going to be a great success mate it was a fantastic idea, looking forward to seeing the videos as well.
I’m glad you like the post Barry and thanks for the kind words mate.
Take care, catch up soon

Hi Ian,
I have to agree with Barry, you really do have a style which captivates your readers.
I’v had a Linkedin account for way longer than my blog and only since Adrienne’s Linkedin post did I then go and have a better look around. It really is very good, I was impressed with being able to also do your tweets from there. Looking at it now, I think I stayed away because I felt quite intimidated by it.
Google +, my brother sent me an invite, so have only just started there, as I check my googlemail everyday I can have a little look. (will have to be very careful mind, that I don’t get stuck there!)
Youtubes, well, with Barry’s challenge I guess I’ll be opening up an account within the next days.
I do like your diagrams too. At first glance it was, blimey what’s this? But when you look at it, it all fits together and makes sense.
Thanks for sharing this info Ian and looking forward to next weeks report.
Take Care
Cheers

Hi Julie
Thanks for dropping in and sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it.
I have just finished watching Adrienne’s video on LinkedIn and I picked up some nice tips from it, Adrienne does great videos.
Its sounds like you have had the same experience as many others including myself; we have had these accounts for some time but not used them to our best advantage!
If I had only applied then what I know now …. Does that sound familiar!
Just connected with you on Google+ glad to have on board Julie, I am still getting to know my way around it at the moment, but I am enjoying the experience.
Glad you have decided to join Barry’s challenge, it is an excellent idea and I hope there are loads of entries.
Glad you liked the post Julie and thanks for the kind words and support …
Take care, catch up soon

Hi Ian…
You summarized everything quite nicely
Yep…guilty as charged…I wasn’t using my accounts to proper my business either. But, as Dawn says…that is going to change!
Sally already has my head spinning with all the great ideas and plug ins she comes up with. I can only imagine what’s ahead
At least now if I am going to use Social Media I can actually use it to my advantage!

Hey Ian,
Glad to see that you are really enjoying Sally’s course and learning a lot. Isn’t it fun to learn new things and then share it with the rest of us?
I’m thrilled to say that I’ve been doing a lot of what she’s sharing. Guess that means I’ve gotten my hands on some good training as well. I did learn to set all my accounts up with the same information because let’s face it, they are all interconnecting at some point and you want people to find you easily.
I also did my own background for my YouTube and Twitter sites so I’m sure they would look a whole lot better being done more professionally but I do like the simple look you know.
I am happy to say that I use LastPass and have for awhile now. Such a time saver my friend. You can access it from other computers too. That’s convenient.
Am excited that you are learning a lot and already seeing good results from implementing what you’ve been taught. You know I’ll look forward to what else you have to share with us, especially when it comes to Google+. I’m ready to learn more about that site.
Thanks Ian and I’ll see you again soon my friend.

Hi Adrienne
As always it’s great to see you, thanks for popping over and your comment.
Sally’s coaching is brilliant I have having so much fun and learning a great deal at the same time, doesn’t get any better than that.
I now have all my accounts set up and working properly … I hope! And you know I am enjoying them so much more now and want to do more with them!
I am going to be revamping my blog as well and I am having some new graphics made, you know cleaning it up a bit, just making sure I have everything safely backed up first. I have Nikki to thank for that thought; in the process of revamping her own blog, Nikki has provide a great little e-book of how to do it safely, a “step by step” http://nikkistephens.com/online-business/check-out-my-brand-spanking-newly-revamped-blog/
I also decided to get some graphics done for my YouTube and Twitter accounts, basically I am have a complete makeover!
During the coming weeks Adrienne I am looking forward to sharing more of Sally’s teachings, each week gets better and better.
I also need to learn more about Google+ definitely going to be doing more research on it.
Have a great weekend Adrienne
Take care, catch up soon

Well I have not attended Sally’s Webinar, but it sounds like sound counsel. I just recently began blogging and have been having tons of fun. I can clearly see however that by using the various social media sites that is it truly like building your brand!
I have been seeing the need to utilize Facebook differently and I quite like the Google plus circles concept as that can be very useful to have your circles defined.
I really like your blog Ian and you have built a very nice and friendly environment. It makes you want to join in! I will be visiting more now that I have found you!
Cheers,

Hi Rusty
Welcome to my blog
Thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it.
I am having so much a fun “Learning with Sally” the coaching is packed full of great content and Sally makes it fun while you learn, she is great coach.
Rusty I have had some of my accounts for some time now, but as I mentioned earlier I have simply not taken advantage of them in relation to my business, as you can probably tell that’s now changing!
Social networks are a brilliant way of raising your Brand awareness and sharing and caring online. The most important thing is to remember to build your relationships with people it’s all about “Sharing and Caring” and helping people wherever you can.
I am glad you liked the post and thank you for your kind words Rusty, stay tuned during the coming weeks as I shall be sharing more tips on how to grow these accounts!
I have just connected with you on Google+ … join me Facebook as well!

Yeah, i read somewhere that Google+ went up in a few months where Facebook only managed to get in a few years. We’ll just have to see if the growth is sustainable before investing more time into it.
Sally has a nice strategy though.

Thanks for dropping in and sharing your thoughts, I appreciate it.
As I am sure you are aware Google+ is Google’s second attempt at taking on Facebook, and if you consider joining is by invitation only at the moment then the results they are seeing is truly amazing!
I personally think this time they will give Facebook a run for their money! However only time will tell, 10 million users in 16 days is some achievement!
